At the core of every gameplay computer is its video card, which performs billions of computations every second to make your game look its best. Others like the CPU, nutboard, memory card and RAM are important, but the video card is the place where true magics take place. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 are the latest innovations in the graphic card industry offering new functionality and higher throughput.

Also, the price for predecessor generations has decreased, although it looks like the GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti will be discontinued. Regardless, now is a good season to buy a new video card. Take a look at our best practices for the best PC gamers. Choosing the best video card is a balance of cash, power, screen and setting, as well as the type of game you' re playing.

Purchasing the quickest video card and coupling it to a multi-year-old processor will often reduce your frame rates, and you won't need a top shepherd card just to run 1080p game. However, if you have a Core i7-8700K or higher speed processor and the new 4K HDR G-Sync and FreeSync screens in mind, you'll want as much power and storage as possible.

High end shoppers will want to see the latest and best Turing CPUs, the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070. Nvidia's new GPUs might be pricey, but they also offer the quickest choices, and raytracing and depth learners like DLSS have a good shot at becoming important feature sets in the years ahead.

However, if you're more interested in making savings, the GeForce 10 Series and AMD RX 500 and RX Vega boards still offer excellent value and outperformance. Notice that the maps are sorted by power, with the quickest maps first, and the order has no value at all.

This is the best video card at the moment. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the latest and most powerful video processor ever and one of the biggest consumers video processors ever made. Turing TU102 is 60 per cent bigger than Pascal BP102 in 1080 Ti, with 55 per cent more transistor.

But if you want the best, be prepared: The lowest 2080 Ti tickets begin at $999, with many sold for $1,199 and over. When you' re looking for the best value for money, don' t worry about the new RTX boards.

Conversely, if you are looking at a 4k 144Hz HDR G-Sync screen and want the absolutely quickest video card, this is the right card for you. In fact, you might even try to add a second card and use an NVLink port, provided you have just won the Lotto. Of course, the RTX 2080 Ti is the quickest video card and has all kinds of fun and potentially useful functions, but at today price it's a difficult toll to take.

The RTX 2080 is the second fast graphics processor in the GTX 1080 Ti- class, saving you over $300 when you use it for your graphics. At the moment the only big reservation is the same as above, we are still awaiting raytracing and DLSS game. These should begin next months or so with a Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Battlefield 5 patches, but will the RTX 2080 be capable enough to take advantage of the new comps?

Former heavy-weight champions of the graphic card industry are still hitting, and with the RTX boards now available, pricing has sunk. Whereas these formerly started at $700, tickets are now available for $650, and random sells may cause rates to fall even lower. A 1440p or 4k screen should be used before you buy a card like this as it is an 1080p OVERKIL.

With the GTX 1080 Ti, the major problem is that it doesn't have all the new RTX card capabilities. It is essentially associated with the 2080 for powering legacy gaming, but there are already 25 matches scheduled for use with Nvidia's new DLSS algorithms, and 11 matches will have raytracing effect.

If you' re willing to spend $650 on a video card, a further $50 to $150 to get the latest architectures and functionality is probably value for money. But what if you can't buy 700 dollars or more for a video card?

This is where Nvidia's RTX 2070 comes in, the third Turing GPU and the cheapest in the series. Even more important is that it is relatively widespread, and there are even a few tickets at the suggested basic rate of $500. That' still a big buck for a video card, and the 2070 is actually much faster than the 1080 Ti predecessor (see below), at least in gaming that doesn't use DLSS - that's all for now, but that should soon be changing.

RTX 2070 starts where GTX 1080 stopped. Slightly better value for money, it incorporates the new Tensor and RT core, just like the other RTX boards. Founders Edition wasn't particularly stunning as it came with a $100 surcharge, but we liked the EVGA 2070 Black pretty much and it's a good complement to any new games game.

Best video card is not just the quickest video card or the least expensive video card. Instead, the best video card needs to reconcile power, affordability and functionality. While there are many great video adapters out there, if you want something to guide you through the next few years without cracking the wall, Nvidia's GTX 1070 Ti is probably the best choice.

Halfway between the 1070 and 1080, it provides power at a cost nearer to the 1070. When you want to run 1440p or 1080p on a 144Hz screen, the 1070 Ti has the capabilities to run most of your favorite titles at near top speed. Last months also saw a fall in over $50 in prices, meaning that for the first consecutive week since the card was introduced, they were below $400.

While the RTX 2070 can be considered a step-up, the 1070 Ti is a much better value for legacy gaming. At Vega, we had high expectations before the release, and in the end it didn't work. Rather than being the titanium killer we'd been hoping for, the Vega 64 and Vega 56 couldn't even take down Nvidia's one-year-old GTX 1080 / 1070.

However, they come within easy reach, often leaders in 12 gaming and at least the price is lower. RX Vega 64 is AMD's latest flagship gaming machine and will be able to play today's 1440p and in many cases even 4-k matches. What's not enough is efficiency: The Vega 64 often consumes 100W more than a GTX 1080 Ti and 150W more than a GTX 1080.

AMD's bubble card references run much noisier than most other BPUs. Vega 56 is the better option to AMD and runs only about 5-10 per cent more slowly. A lot of players have a tight schedule, and while quicker maps could make you jealous, a 1080p screen can be overwhelming.

RX 580 8GB exchanges shots with GTX 1060 6GB, whereby it gains a few per cent in output, but consumes more of it. The majority of gaming doesn't really need more storage, as the differences between high-quality and ultra-quality Textures are often insignificant, especially on a 1080p-screen. Losing 2 GB of RAM is not really a problem in most gaming, especially at 1080p, where these boards work best.

The RTX boards, however, are driving down the price of GTX boards, and the GTX 1060 is nearing an all-time low of just over $200. The RX 570 4GB is slightly ahead or slightly behind the GTX 1060 3GB overall, with a preference for AMD in 12 direct X gaming.

While the 570 consumes slightly more electricity, most desktop computers are more than able to run this 150W card without problems. Dependent on the plays you are playing and the actual prices, the RX 570 is a great card for 1080p-plays. This 4GB is a little disturbing as more and more matches start to go beyond that with higher EQ.

The main rivals for inexpensive graphic adapters are AMD's RX 560 and Nvidia GTX 1050. Currently, the RX 560 4GB cost less than the GTX 1050 2GB 1050 and delivers more, especially at low to mid range and 1080p where competing gamer likes to roam. RX 560 4GB is ideal for light e-sport gaming, such as CS:GO, LoL, Overwatch and more.

At 1080p, it can reach speeds of around sixty fps in most low to mid range gaming, which is about as much as we can expect from a video card with a price below $150. You just have to know that the RX 560's power is one level lower than that of the earlier generations of card like the R38080 and more in line with the R9/R7370.

Whilst the main processor is still the "brain" of your computer, every year tens of thousands of games will take your video card to its heights. It is the most common item you want to update, but if you buy the right card, it should last at least two years. It is important to find the best price/performance relationship for a handy size within your budgets.

That is why we have already seen maps in the $300/£250 area, although the best stocks currently are either above or below that level. The GTX 1070 Ti from Nvidia is a hit card that far surpasses all older maps. It' s overclocking, silent and effective; more to the point, it can run any match we've tried at more than 60 images per second at 1080pultra, and most matches are breaking 60 images per second at 1440pultra.

Discuss the cost and whether you really need ultra-quality adjustments, but the GTX 1070 Ti is still our choice for the best video card for games. Power dials with prices when you switch from 1070 Ti to 1080 and 1080 Ti, and the leap to RTX boards can be very aching.

And the same applies to the GTX 1070, 1060 6GB, 1060 3GB, 1050 Ti and 1050 conversion. AMD's boards are a similar history, with the Vega 56/64 at the top of the RX 570/580 chart, but often more than twice as expensive as the RX 570/580, which is about twice as expensive as the RX 560.

Need a new video card? When you have doubts whether your actual computer is quick enough to justify buying a better video card, I have some dates for you. Often, even with the quickest video card (e.g. the GTX 1080 Ti) that runs at a higher load on your processor (1080p ultra), there's little increase in gameplay time.

Yes, really old processors will have a hard time, but switching from a Core i7-4770K to a Core i7-8700K only enhances your playing experience by an averaging 23x%. So what happens if you use a video card that is 20-30 per cent faster than a GTX 1080 Ti? With at least 8GB of system RAM and a Core i7-4770K or better processor, you should be satisfied with everything up to a GTX 1070 Ti / RX Vega 56 power rating.

There are also very few (if any) noticeable differences in most matches when changing from 2GB to 4GB of texture. Each of the maps we have chosen has at least 3 GB, which is more than enough for high fidelity, and usually also for ultrahigh fidelity set-up. We recommend our graphic card on the basis of our own comprehensive benchmarking and tests, taking the pricing into account.

Benchmarks are available for the full Nvidia and AMD line of video boards, covering all RTX 20s, GTX 10s and AMD RX Vega/500s. We previously reviewed the Fury/300/200 and GTX 900/700 card ranges, but due to pressure of schedule and unavailability, we no longer test most of these active boards.

When looking for peak power, you can run two boards in SLI or CrossFire. On the other hand, large gaming environments will more and more often see multi-GPU players being ignored outright. However, you don't necessarily need two XML 16 links, although in some matches it can increase your power by a few per cent. AMD Ryzen parts do not perform nearly as well in SLI/CF as Intel Core processor.

Graphic horsepower is not the only thought. It is important to know the qualitiy of the gaming driver and other functions the card supports. Fortunately, almost all today's boards are quite silent, even under heavy use, and the temperature is also within reasonable limits, although Nvidia still has an edge when it comes to electricity.

Each card is tested on a high-end 1080p media, 1080p ultras, 1440p ultras and 4K Ultra/High setting computer. The results are taken from fifteen different matches, mostly newer versions, using the "best" programming interface for each GNU in each match. This means that low-level AMD card APIs are used when they are available, while DX12/Volcano are only used in certain Nvidia card gaming applications.

Here is how the maps evolve in relation to the avarage and minimal framerates in these matches. With the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080, GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2070 and GTX 1080 Nvidia takes the first five places, followed by the Vega 64, GTX 1070 Ti, Vega 56 and GTX 1070.

The RX 570/580 and the GTX 1060 also provide 3GB/6GB of good output on their way into the mainsstream series. AMD's RX Vega boards are able to rival Nvidia's high-end, previous-generation high end Vega boards, but Nvidia's boards are generally better at the moment, especially considering Vega's higher energy consumption.

Not included, however, are the RTX boards, which significantly raise the price for only a moderate power-up. Essentially, when you buy an RTX card, you're placing bets on upcoming raytracing and DLSS gaming. Meanwhile, the RX 560 4GB from AMD is still a good budgetary card. What do these maps look like compared to their value?

For the best value for money, we have given two different views of the range of maps, both in images per second and currency units. Top diagrams show the video boards isolated, which can be useful if you have a personal computer and only want to perform an update of your BPU. None of the two approaches is a perfectly accurate depiction of the value, but the two give a better overview of how the maps evaluate.

Whilst cheap inexpensive CPUs alone can look quite good, you' re combining them with the system cost, especially on a high-performance today's computer, and you' re almost always better off investing more in your video card. Computer graphic design will be a rapidly evolving area in the near term. This is nowhere more apparent than with Nvidia's recent introduction of GeForce RTX, which has the capability to redesign what we want from our video boards in the near term.

We base our referrals on a combination of actual pricing and actual performances, and lower pricing or restricted selling could put a card at the top of the league. When you find that your system is not tracking the game hours, look at the graphs and determine how far you want to go to the top of the scale, then buy accordingly.

For those who already have a GTX 900 or 300 card (or better) should be able to run any actual match, although not necessarily at 60 frames per second and top notch. Gaming continues to press for new power ratings, but adjusting some adjustments should keep most video adapters alive for at least a few years.
