History[edit] The Equifax Inc. is a provider of information on customer credits. The Equifax Group gathers and gathers information about more than 800 million individuals and more than 88 million companies around the world. Established in 1899 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, it is one of the three biggest information bureaus along with Experian and TransUnion (known as the "Big Three").

Equifax has $3.1 billion in sales and more than 9,000 people in 14 markets. Equifax in September 2017 heralded a burglary of an alleged May-July 2017 burglary [9], where 145 individuals were attacked by criminals. Five million pieces of U.S. Equifax consumer information, personally identifiable information, which includes full name, social insurance numbers, date of birth, address and driver's license number.

The Equifax also verified that at least 209,000 consumer transactions were recorded during the assault. Equifax reported on March 1, 2018 that 2.4 million extra US clients were affected by the injury. They claim to have uncovered clues to the July 29, 2017 cyber crime incident. Established in 1899 by Cator and Guy Woolford in Atlanta, Georgia, Equifax was a retail banking group.

In the 1960', the Retail credit firm was one of the nation's biggest lending agencies, keeping records of billions of Americans and Canadians. Although the firm continues to provide loan information, most of its operations reported to insurers as individuals requested new policy coverage, which includes personal accident, car, fire and health coverage.

The largest part of the lending work was then carried out by a retail agency, the Retailers commercial agency. Later, the firm grew into business lending to businesses in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, competing with Dun & Bradstreet and Experian. It also had a department that sold specific loan information to the insurers, but it outsourced this activity, which included the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (CLUE) as ChoicePoint in 1997.

GeoTrust previously provided CA software solutions, which it divested to GeoTrust in September 2001. The same year, Equifax established the Payments Business and founded the public limited liability corporation Certegy, which in 2006 took over Fidelity National Information Systems. Equifax began in 1999 to offer additional retail banking solutions, such as loan fraud protection and ID thievery.

EquityFax and other loan control firms are legally obligated to make available to U.S. citizens a free loan database publication every 12 month; the Annualcreditreport.com website contains information from U.S. EquityFax's loan history. A Motherboard October 2017 article, around December 2016, reported that a safety investigator who examined Equifax server research found that an on-line gateway that appeared to be open only to Equifax staff was open to the intranet.

Overall, the scientist downloads the files of several hundred thousand Americans to show Equifax the weaknesses in his system. You said you could have retrieved the files of all Equifax clients in 10 minutes: "The same kinds of commercially-sensitive private information of U.S. users (names, date of birth, national insurance numbers, etc.) were disclosed as in the May-July violation, according to the motherboard.

In addition, vulnerability analysts indicated that they could obtain shell control over Equifax server resources and detected and reported Equifax exploits. The Equifax break is probably the most serious of all, for one easy reason: the breathtaking amount of extremely sensible information she has passed on to thieves.

Uncovered was also that three Equifax leaders were selling nearly $1.8 million of their corporate share holding companies personally holding nearly $1.8 million a day after Equifax detected the break, but more than a months before the break was released. On September 18, Bloomberg stated that the U.S. Department of Justice had opened an inquiry to establish whether or not inside trade law had been infringed.
